A New Semester!

Dear Femme Sole Members,

How was your summer? I hope it was as productive and relaxing as mine. Since we all know that school starts on Monday I would like to have a meeting the second week of the semester to regroup and get the ball rolling with Femme Sole. Per advice of Dr. Puaca, we took a break this summer, but that break is now over. I was wondering what evening each of you are available so that we can pick a permanent meeting night that will work for everyone. It will also make it easier for me to reserve a room in the library so that we won’t be scrambling to find an open room. If you all could email me your availability, then that would be great. I can't wait to see you all soon and get Femme Sole off the ground!

Always,
Nicole

We Are On Our Way!

Dear Contemporaries,

I submitted our paperwork to Kim Roeder this past Friday and should hear back from her by the end of this week about our club status. Also, the Student Media Board is meeting this week and a dear friend of mine who is on the board will let me know how we can go about getting funding. We have found our officers for this upcoming school year and are as follows:

Editor/President: Nicole Justice

Associate Editor: Alex Ruble

Secretary: Andrew Carr

Copy Editor: Summer Gladden

Associate Copy Editor: Laura Kelly

Treasurer: Stephanie Hawkins

If any one is interested in being our graphic designer or web master let me know. Until then you have to put up with me doing it ;) Our first meeting has also been set for this THURSDAY MARCH 3RD AT 7PM IN EINSTEINS! I cannot wait to see you all there. I know it dinnertime so I will bring some snacks! Some topics we will be discussing is our constitution, how many issues we want to put out, what our call for papers and submission guidelines will look like, how we will go about the paper selection process, and how to go about promoting for the journal to get the word out! I hope to see you all there and if you cannot make it, don’t fret! I will post the minutes online to keep you updated! Have a good week and I will see you all soon!

Moving On Up!

Moving On Up!

Dear Contemporaries,

Since confirming with Dr. Puaca that starting up a journal is indeed a good idea I have already received email from over 22 people saying that they were interested in participating in Femme Sole in some capacity. This is wonderful! I would still like to encourage all of you to spread the word to your professors and fellow classmates so that we can have a large pool of papers and book reviews to select from for the summer edition. I will turn in the paper work for official campus recognition this Friday and will hopefully hear back from Student Activities in two weeks. The application process is a bit odd since we are really just a journal and not so much a club, however we will be recognized by the school as a club with an academic journal. Yes, I know it is confusing! Before that date however I would like to have a meeting so that we can all get together and finalize what kind of formal submission process we want to have as well as how we can go about getting funding. There are also still three "officer" positions still open in the journal which are:

-Associate Editor
-Copy Editor
-Treasurer

If you are interested then please email why you think you would be a good candidate for the position that you are interested in along with your email, class year, local address, local phone number, permanent address, and permanent phone number!

Your Fearless Leader,
Nicole

Test Run!

Dear Contemporaries!

This is a test run for Christopher Newport University's Women's Studies Journal, Femme Sole. I wanted to see if this interface would work well for our purposes, mainly communicating with the group and posing calls for papers as well as possibly using this site for electronically publishing the journal! I right now am in the process of officially setting up this journal as first a student club/organization on campus. We all know the hoops one must jump through to conquer campus bureaucracy, however I am confident that we can be up and away by this summer so that we can have a summer edition of the journal. I am in need of lots of help and have spoken to some faculty members who are willing to sponsor the journal. I will be witting our mission statement later this week and also be networking to get the word out. If you have any interest please email me at nicole.justice.05@cnu.edu, and stay posted.

Cheers!
Nicole Kleemann
